Parent-Child Home Program

In collaboration with the Bedford County School Districts and ALSM

What is the Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP)?

PCHP is a free, home-based literacy program that assists families in developing pre-reading skills with children 2 and 3 years of age.

What is a home-based program?

Participating families are visited twice each week for 30 minutes at the parents’ convenience within their home.

What do you do at a home visit?

In play sessions with the parent and child together the Literacy Visitor brings carefully chosen books and toys and demonstrates techniques that facilitate verbal interaction and learning through play.

How does this program benefit my child?

Research indicates that the younger children are introduced to reading and develop pre-reading skills the more successful they are when they attend school. PCHP also strengthens families by increasing parent-child interaction.
