Tussey Mountain High School will be hosting a free Financial Aid Event for the parents and guardians of seniors who have plans to further their education. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15th at 5:30pm and will take place in the auditorium.
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Friends, I am writing with a very simple request. If your child is sick, please don’t send him or her to school. Last Friday seven students in the high school/ middle school walked through the door at the beginning of the day with COVID symptoms. These students were sent to the nurse, isolated, and sent home as quickly as we could identify them. We are trying very hard to keep school open for all of our children. However, this must be a community effort. We cannot do this without your help. We are beginning to see student to student transmissions, which we didn’t see at all last year. We are enforcing the mask mandate here at school, but we can’t ensure that every student is taking the same precautions out of school. PIAA has allowed us to play sports without a mask, which makes quarantine due to close contact necessary if a student exhibits symptoms. We want to play a full schedule of athletics, but team quarantines have been taking their toll across our region. Please help us to keep our doors open. If your student has a temperature of 100.4 or greater, please keep him or her home. If they say they don’t feel well, take them at their word. Thank you. Attention Parents and Guardians: Monday, September 13, 2021, will be a virtual instruction day for students at Tussey Mountain Middle/ High School as a COVID-19 mitigation measure. Elementary students should report to Tussey Mountain Elementary School for face-to-face instruction. Indoor sports scheduled for Monday September 13 (Junior High & Varsity Volleyball) will be postponed. All outdoor sports will proceed as scheduled. Additionally, the Tussey Mountain Board of Directors Work Session scheduled for September 13, 2021 at 7:00 PM will proceed as scheduled in the high school auditorium. Masks will be required for entry into the work session.
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Friends, As you are aware the Tussey Mountain School Board and administration have decided to enforce the governor’s mandate on mask wearing. While I know that this is an unpopular decision among some parents, I believe I have explained to those that have asked the reasoning behind this decision. I have asked the group of concerned parents who gathered at the high school to provide me with a list of further questions, which I look forward to receiving. Yesterday, some parents kept their students out of school because we would not let them enter without a face covering. Today, some of those students returned. Some parents expressed medical concerns about mask wearing, and we advised those parents to consult with their primary care physician regarding a mask exemption. I know that sorting this out for individual families will take some time. Accordingly, we are willing to provide the remainder of this week to families who need to consult with their physician or talk with family members. We will excuse your child’s absences for this week if you contact our office and request the days. This can be done through phone calls or e-mail. At this point in time at the urging of our solicitor, the Tussey Mountain School District is not able to accept the open mask exemption form from Dr. Yeager or Heritage Family Health since the exemption can be found as an open blanket online document. Furthermore, as district residents you more than likely do not use this facility for your general practitioner needs. The form does not in any way state that your child has been seen by this doctor or is under this facility’s care. As far as an exemption, all medical excuses will be reviewed individually which is consistent with other policies requiring medical documentation. The district will continue to follow local procedures and protocols as they relate to medical accommodations in the school setting. Your listed primary care physician would be a good start for an exemption script or another healthcare professional which is able to examine and/or be seen by your child.

August 16, 2021 Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends, We are scheduled to begin the 2021-2022 school year on Monday, August 23rd. We have been busy all summer preparing for the upcoming year. Our teachers have been in preparing their rooms, and every surface has been disinfected. We hoped we would have seen the last of COVID 19, but unfortunately, it remains a concern. The federal government is still requiring students to wear masks on school buses and vans because they have been determined by the courts to be public transportation. We are bound to follow this mandate as long as it is in place. However, once students arrive at school, mask wearing for students and staff will be optional. We feel it is up to parents to make this important decision for their own children. Having said that, it is important to note that Bedford County, which makes up the majority of our school district is only about 30% vaccinated. In order to keep our schools open, which is our sincerest desire, I urge everyone eligible to get vaccinated. If you choose to not get vaccinated, it is imperative that you monitor the infections around you. If a family member in the same home becomes sick, keep your children home. If your child has a fever higher than 100.3, keep him or her and any siblings home. We are still required by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health to report any positive cases in our buildings, do any needed contact tracing, and issue quarantine instructions. As long as transmission rates remain high, we will continue our mitigation strategies including keeping desks as far apart as possible, allowing students to use water bottles, continuing our aggressive disinfecting protocols, and allowing our older students to eat lunch outside in nice weather. Again, only by working together and communicating with our nurses when you have a concern can we help to ensure that we keep our students as safe as we possibly can. July 19, 2021 Dear Students, Parents, Family Members, Staff members and Friends, As the pandemic recedes and life begins to look more and more normal, we are looking forward to getting back to school as it used to be. We just received a letter from Noe Ortega, Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, indicating that the Department of Education and the Department of Health will not be providing guidance to schools regarding their school reopening plans. They have decided to allow local officials to make decisions based on the current circumstances in their districts. We welcome this decision. We have always believed that we should make decisions based on what’s happening in our neighborhoods, rather than the infection rates in the big cities. As of last Friday, the infection rates as measured by the Department of Health were low in Both Bedford and Huntingdon Counties. Accordingly, at this time we intend to fully open on August 23rd with no mask mandate in place. Of course, that is subject to change depending on circumstances on August 23rd, but we are very hopeful. If students or staff would like to wear masks, that is certainly an option. We will continue to keep some mitigation measures in place such as hand washing stations and keeping drinking fountains closed. We will also continue to keep students as socially distanced as possible in classrooms and continue to allow students to eat outside in nice weather. We have no control over the vaccination rate or the infection rate. The new delta variant of the virus is very contagious and is spreading among those not vaccinated. I strongly urge everyone to get a COVID 19 vaccination. My sole reason for this plea is to help keep schools open. If you choose not to get the vaccination, I urge you to monitor your personal contacts and those of your loved ones. Please keep students home from school who are showing any symptoms or have a fever above 100.4. My hope is that we will have a normal year and soon the pandemic will be a memory. Dear Tussey Mountain Family, We have been closely monitoring the infection rates in our zip codes and in our school populations, and we have decided to fully open school for all students every day beginning on Monday, February 8th. This is a decision that we do not make lightly because the health and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority. With that in mind, we believe that kids should be in school. They should be able to interact with their teachers and their friends without Zoom. I believe we have done everything we can to mitigate the spread of the virus in both our buildings. We are sanitizing regularly, and that will continue. We will continue to require all students and teachers to wear masks. We will socially distance as much as we possibly can, but we cannot guarantee a full six feet at all times. Our sincerest hope is that we can get back to where we were before the virus showed up and return to a sense of normal as the weather starts to get warm. As parents or guardians, your assistance is vital to helping us keep school open. As I’ve said in earlier posts, the State has put strict limits on how many infections we can have before we have to close, so it is critical that you keep your student home if he or she is not feeling well. Any temperature over 100.3 is cause for a sick day. Also, please let our nurses know if you have active COVID contacts in your home. Once we fully open, our attendance policy will be enforced as it was before we went virtual. If we can just hang on for a little longer, vaccines will become available to everyone and infection levels will go low enough that we can begin talking about prom and graduation for the class of 2021. Dear Parents, The State of Pennsylvania has set new rules for schools in order for them to remain open. These rules will be in place for the foreseeable future. The rules set limits on infection numbers in all school buildings based upon a 14 day rolling average. That means that the elementary school must close when 4 students or staff become positive within any 14 day period. The number is six at the Middle/High School. We currently have several active close contacts at both schools we are monitoring that could possibly become positives. If that happens we could be forced to close a building. In an abundance of caution, we have decided to remain in hybrid during the week of February 1st, and open both schools again fully on February 8th. This will allow both hybrid groups fairly equal time and will allow us to get past the quarantine period for our current close contacts. Dear Parents, We are completing our first cycle of hybrid learning and are looking towards opening fully. After consultation with our medical personnel and advisors and looking at the infection levels in our zip codes, we have made the difficult decision to continue in hybrid for at least one more week. Most schools in the area who have opened fully have had to close again because of exceeding the number of infections allowed under the new state guidelines. As we have stated, we want to be open fully, but we want to stay open once we have all our students back. We feel that by waiting at least one more week, we stand a better chance of achieving that goal. We are constantly monitoring the health of our students and our staff, and we will reopen fully as soon as it is safe to do so. Attention parents, guardians, students: With the increase in COVID rates, we must ensure that all students are wearing face coverings on our school buses. Drivers will have extra masks available, but if a student refuses to wear a mask, he or she will be denied entry to the bus. Attention Parents: Due to K-4 being the only students in school today afternoon buses will be running 10-15 minutes ahead of schedule. Dismissal times will remain the same. Please plan for your children to arrive at bus stops 10-15 minutes early.
Dear Parents & Guardians, Late Tuesday afternoon, we were made aware that a support staff member had tested positive for COVID. As near as we can determine, this employee was present in the middle/high school during an infectious period. In an abundance of caution, we closed school on Wednesday to allow us to deeply clean the entire building and ensure that those who had close contact with this individual are quarantining. At this point, unless you are contacted directly by school personnel or Department of Health officials, you can assume that your child was not identified as having close contact or being at risk as a result of this infection. Our plan moving forward is to reopen as usual on Thursday. We will be closely monitoring students and staff under quarantine and will be especially vigilant for anyone in any building who begins to show symptoms. We have been fortunate that we have been able to remain open without interruption so far this year. I am hopeful that if we all use common sense and necessary precaution, we can continue serving our students in our classrooms. District 5 Football Championship Game: Northern Bedford County vs. Tussey Mountain, Friday, October 30, 2020 at 7:00. Hollidaysburg High School (Tiger Stadium, Union St. Hollidaysburg, PA). All tickets must be pre-purchased and are $6 (no student prices). There will be NO tickets sold the night of the game. Each participant (football, band, cheer) will be given 6 vouchers on Monday, October 26th. Voucher money and unsold vouchers must be returned on Wednesday, October 28th by noon. All unsold tickets will then go on sale to the public (4 tickets maximum) at the Tussey Mountain Football Stadium ticket booth on Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM until all tickets are sold.
Friday October 23rd is an early dismissal day for the Tussey Mountain School District. Dismissal at the elementary school will begin at 12:45pm for parent pickups and 12:50pm for students on buses. High school students will be dismissed at 1:00pm.
Monday October 12 will be an online tutoring/ catch up day. Students enrolled in TM Online are asked to report to the school from 9:00am-12:00pm and again from 2:00-3:00pm to work in small, socially-distanced groups with teachers. Students should bring their device and notebook. The schedule will be as follows: ELA Lab 9:00 AM Math Lab 10:00 AM Science/ Health Lab: 11:00 AM Social Studies Lab 2:00 Students will NOT be permitted on campus between 12:00 and 2:00 pm. Students attending the Social Studies Lab should be picked up promptly at 3:00pm. Students are required to wear a mask or face covering at all times when in the building. As most of you are aware, the courts reinstated the guidelines governing attendance at school events, which include 25 total inside and 250 total outside. It is unknown how long this ruling will be in place and it is very possible that these rules may change again. The Tussey Mountain School District will begin enforcement of the 25/250 regulations on Monday, October 5th. Again, the spectator regulations go back to 25 inside and 250 outside and stay that way until further notice.
The Tussey Mountain School District is reporting a second potential positive COVID case. At the present time the district is working closely with the Dept. of Health. Students and staff who have been in close contact with the person in question have been notified and have been directed to quarantine. We will continue to monitor this situation and will take appropriate action as guided by the DOH.
Spectators are still permitted up to 50% capacity at tonight's varsity football game at Glendale. The game will be live-streamed on the NFHS network.
The Tussey Mountain School District has experienced its first positive COVID case. To avoid confusion and false reports, we wanted you to be aware that our case involves an individual who is a non-teaching staff member. This staff member is not routinely in our buildings. We have been advised by the Department of Health that there is no concern or exposure to any staff or student at this time. We will continue to follow the Department of Health guidelines.
Struggling Online? Need extra help? We are available to meet with your child in a socially distanced manner to provide additional instruction to supplement online learning. Our After 3 program offers face-to-face or virtual tutoring every Monday through Thursday starting at 3:00. This is open to all Tussey Mountain students. In addition, we will be offering face-to-face tutoring all day during our in-service day on October 12th for those students who can use extra help, but aren't ready to return full time. Clarification to the last announcement: Registrations by Thursday morning for Friday afternoon pickup are for a new weekend meal distribution for any child between ages 2 and 18 living in the district. This is in addition to the weekly meals already being distributed.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held at Tussey Mountain Elementary on October 12, 2020. Conferences will be held from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm. Conferences are by appointment only. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress, learn about state assessments, discuss ways to help your child at home and any concerns you may have regarding your child. For those who currently qualify for free/reduced priced meals, please be sure that your application has been renewed for the 2020 - 2021 school year because the district-wide free meals is a TEMPORARY benefit. Spectators at Athletic Events Attention Titan Fans: Under the current state guidelines, the Governor and DOH mandate no spectators at athletic events. As per these guidelines, the TMSD along with the Inter-County Conference will not permit spectators at athletic events. Spectators are prohibited on school property during contests. These guidelines must be followed or risk the stopping and ultimately forfeiting games due to the presence of spectators. We understand these orders may not be popular, but we must comply in order to give our student-athletes the chance to play their respective sport. Indoor sporting events and gatherings of more than 25 persons are prohibited. Outdoor sporting events and gatherings of more than 250 persons are prohibited. Sports-related activities at the PK-12 level are limited to student-athletes, coaches, officials, and staff only. Band and cheer are also allowed in a sports setting, but individuals involved in such a setting count towards gathering limitations and must comply with the face-covering order and social distancing guidelines. Beginning next Monday, July 27, free lunch distribution will only be available at the high school and Robertsdale fire hall. We will no longer be handing out lunches from the Defiance fire hall. Lunches continue to be handed out Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11am to 12pm.

Dear Parents, First, we want to thank you for your efforts in working to educate your children during this trying time. Now that summer is officially here, we are busy here in our school offices planning for next year. Planning for the unknown is never an exact science, so we have decided to hope for the best, but plan for the worst as we look forward to reopening school in the fall. We just received guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education on developing a Health and Safety Plan that must be Board approved before we can open either of our buildings. This plan will outline the steps we will take to mitigate the spread of the COVID 19 virus in school should infection rates spike once school begins. We have put together a diverse committee made up of representatives from different stakeholder groups to discuss a plan for reopening. One thing that became apparent during our initial discussion is that we need to determine what our communities think about reopening and what your questions and concerns are. Due to lack of refrigeration, starting tomorrow, April 14, meal serving times at the elementary school, Robertsdale Fire Hall, and Six Mile Run Fire Hall, will be from 11:00 to 12:00 on Monday through Wednesday.
Under the advisement of the school district the Tussey Mountain PTO will not be operational until the Governor's orders are lifted and the district is able to reopen. Therefore fundraiser refunds and Rada items will not be issued until the PTO is able to resume operations.

Tussey Mountain High School locked down this morning after loud explosions were heard in the vicinity behind the school. In an abundance of caution, we locked down until we determined there was no credible threat. The lockdown has been lifted, and classes have resumed as normal.
A wallet was found at the football game on Friday evening. Please call 814-448-9126 to claim. You will need to describe the wallet for it to be returned.
Reminder: The 5th and 6th grade PTO fundraiser money and orders are due Friday, October 4th.
Beginning Friday, 9/13, our afternoon buses will now arrive home 15 minutes earlier. We have eliminated the wait time at the high school. Vo tech students will now travel home separately, arriving at the same time or earlier. Parent pick up times will be ELE 2:50 and HS 3:05 pm.
We are making changes to our afternoon bus schedule for this Friday. This change will allow us to reduce the wait time for younger students at the high school, who will get home earlier. We will be putting out more information including adjusted schedules on Thursday.
TM PRIDE is hosting a community movie night this Saturday, 9/14, on the TMHS Football Field. The movie is Shazam. Gates open 6:30 PM and the movie starts at dusk. $4 per person. Kids under 5 are free. Concessions will be for sale. Bring a chair/blanket to sit on. Enjoy the movie!

Clarification that elementary students will be dismissed 10 minutes later each day beginning Friday September 6 to reduce wait time at the high school. Home arrival time for students transported on buses should not change. Parent pick up is 3:00. Buses begin loading at 3:05

It has come to our attention by a community member that there was a needle discarded along the road by the school fence. The borough police have been contacted and are on the way to take care of the matter. We have a member of the administrative team on the scene until the police arrive.
